The water came in really fast and in an hour, the water was waist deep in our living room. Most of our stuff got wet - 95% of it. I've made a list of all of those stuff because I am in the process of salvaging those that got wet. I've crossed out the one's that are now working:

<del>TV
Mouse
External Drive
Microwave
Fridge
Pickup Truck
Shredder
Stove
Sterilizer
Power Supply
3 Electric Fans
Rice Cooker
Extension Cords
Air Conditioning Unit
Blender
</del>Digital Kitchen Timer - trashed
Calculator
Webcam
Speakerssss
Air Purifier
Rechargeable Flashlight - this one's supposed to be waterproof but I'm not sure if it can be submerged.
Printer
Turbo Broiler
Oven Toaster
Vacuum Cleaner
Video Cam
Digicam Charger
Video Cam Charger
DVD Player
PS3 Controllers
UPS
Laptop Computer
Power Drill
UPS
Musical Table
Espresso Machine
Ice Cream Maker
Headset - trashed

Technically, these are all the stuff that got wet that you would normally think twice before using. I'll update it when I can each time we get something working or not.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-71083516726491666652009-10-04T23:54:00.008+08:002009-10-06T04:19:36.131+08:00If You Are Reading This, You Have Been BlessedI'm not sure how to write this post. I'm thinking I should just forget about it (notice that I didn't shoot pictures of it) but it is something bad that has happened to our family and could happen to just about anybody as well - whatever your status in life is. I just wanted to share our story of how we were blessed last September 26.

- I woke up late (10:30am) besides the fact that I have been waking up 9-10am everyday for 3 weeks already - part of my plan to change my everyday routine.
- It has been raining really hard the whole night.
- I looked out in front of our garage because I heard a car was parking in front of our house.
- I noticed there's already a water build up and is probably the reason why the car was trying to park on the side walk in front of our house.
- I wasn't worried knowing that our area has never been flooded. I'm used to having flood because I grew up in a place where it floods with little rain. Thus, I choose to live in areas that does not flood.
- I went back in the room to wake up hubby "just" to show him the water coming in.
- We noticed the water was rising.
- We planned to raise the washing machine which is located far back of the garage.
- Hubby backed up the pickup truck so we could place the washing machine at the back of it.
- We didn't get to raise it because the water started to come into the house!
- In the blink of an eye, there is water all over the living room and kitchen floors.
- Pulled out all the cables from the broadband box, television, DVD players and tried to bring them all in the rooms which is 4 stair steps higher than the living room.
- I asked hubby to turn off the power supply. Water is past my ankles already.
- We also tried to bring the television in the rooms but it's too heavy we can't carry it past the stairs.
- Heard Portia wailing from her cage and realized that she's already standing on her back feet. I got her out and placed her on the bed. Water is knee deep.
- I brought my laptop in the room as well.
- Water was past my knees and we were still trying to raise the television but the stubborn thing doesn't want to go up the stairs.
- I looked out the sliding door to see that more water is about to come in. There was about 6 inches difference. The sliding door is glass so I'm torn. If I shut it close, the glass might break. If I open it wider, more water would come in faster.
- Rocky barked. Someone's at the door? Not. He's standing on his back feet and the water's at his kneck.
- Hubby brought him into the bath room which is almost at the same level as the rooms.
- Bang!
- Looking at the direction of the sound we saw the refrigerator floating on the water.
- We realized we should forget about the television and instead raise the fridge. Food is more important than the tv.
- We slid the fridge on the stairs. It was easier than raising the tv. Except that it's lying down instead of standing on it's feet. There goes my stored breastmilk.
- Now, the water is almost waist high and it has reached the rooms.
- I called my Mom without knowing what she or I could do. She's a city away. I guess I'm just letting her know how I'm doing.
- My Mom wanted to fetch me but we heard news from a friend that two jeepneys has been taken by the water current on the road that they are going to take.
- The water was an inch high in the bedrooms when it stopped rising.
- We tried to raise more stuff into the higher cabinets.
- We started to pack our things - important things that we will bring should we need to leave the house.
- The rain wasn't stopping still and the road in front of our house looks like a river for whitewater rafting. Except that we don't have a boat and the life jacket and the helmets. So the idea of going out is not an option.
- It was 1pm without breakfast so the cold pizza from the previous night seems to be the best food ever. Except that there's only 3 slices left and there were 3 mouths to feed.
- I offered to nurse Jack Jack since I was not able to feed him anything since that morning.
- Water started to rise again. Only this time it was slow.
- We have nowhere to raise our things anymore.
- My pick-up truck is also submerged in water up to it's dashboard.
- Water stopped rising at almost knee deep but our bed is already wet - we cannot stay anymore.
- It stopped raining hard but still raining.
- A friend came over to fetch us. He's with his cousins. They helped us carry our stuff out of the house. And into the water-filled street.
- Portia was stuffed into a backpack.
- Rocky was left in the bathroom.
- I couldn't find my slippers.
- Jack Jack laughed seeing the water but later on cried when he couldn't see me. Hubby was holding him.
- I saw dead cockroaches floating. Eeeeww... but felt sorry that they aren't as lucky.
- The water was almost chest deep outside our gates.
- Remember the car that parked there that morning? It's still there. Which is just 2 inches short of being completely submerged.
- Walking barefoot in the water is easier than having slippers on.
- I don't know what time that is anymore. I'm just glad that we got out.
- We waited for ANY vehicle that would take us to ANY hotel.
- A cab driver agreed to take us to Eurotel but he is such an insensitive jerk.
- Cab driver asked us to use our dry clothing to sit on because his seats would be wet from our clothing.
- I was itching to tell him, "I hope this does not happen to you or your family." but that's bad.
- Hubby and I weren't in the mood to argue.
- We got stuck in traffic on the way.
- I had to leave them in the cab to find a restroom. I had to do number 1 so badly.
- Borrowed hubby's slippers. He's the only one who's wearing slippers.
- Cab driver did not wait in the traffic for me so I walked all the way to the hotel.
- It's just a block away but it was raining so hard so I was soaked even if I was wearing a jacket.
- I went through a mall to get out of the rain and save me from more soaking.
- Reached the hotel to find out that they are fully booked.
- Never knowing what to do, an angel tipped us to just order anything from the lobby.
- She said they'd give us a room if we just wait. They're just saying they are full so that the waiting list isn't so long.
- We ordered something.
- Hubby changed his clothes and used his slippers to go to the mall. He'll buy diapers (I forgot to bring) and slippers.
- I also changed my clothes. Walked around the lobby area barefoot.
- I tried to nurse Jack Jack again but he kept on glancing around the lobby. It was not dark and not quiet so his curiousness kicks in.
- I went back and forth their check-in counter with Jack Jack. And yes, I used him as leverage to get a room.
- After about 2 hours, we were able to check into a room with clean sheets, tv and hot shower.
- It was also about the same time our dinner was served.
- Jack Jack had so much fun with the light switches located at the headboard.
- His laughs were the only thing that brightened up that gloomy day.
- Portia was finally let out. The hotel might not take us in if they saw Portia.
- Portia was very good and no accidents inside the bag.
- Had our dinner.
- Gave some leftover for Portia - I forgot to bring her food.
- I nursed Jack Jack to sleep. Had I not been nursing him, I don't know what I would be feeding him.
- We watched tv and saw some more people affected by the flash flood.
- Heard a lot of people are stuck on top of their roofs of two story houses!!!

Except for some bruises (that we don't know where we got) plus poor Portia broke a nail, we're very lucky we're all safe. When we got back at our house it was a mess. A big mess. Rocky was safe inside the bathroom but I think he has developed another phobia. Water phobia. He's also claustrophobic by the way.

When the house owner visited us after 2 days to see the damages, he said it has never flooded in this area. Ever. Which I think is pretty much true. I know because you will see watermarks if the are has been flooded before and the smell would also be different. I know because, as I said, I used to live in a place where flood is a usual thing.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-49799312003542706122009-08-28T18:46:00.001+08:002009-08-28T18:48:50.382+08:00PhonethicsHello?!

Technical Support?!

Businessman?!

Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-9187054015988296802009-07-29T15:00:00.002+08:002009-07-29T15:03:54.681+08:00Hiccups Aren't FunnyWell, at least for me. Unfortunately, most people I know would make fun of my hiccups. I don't find it funny because it's annoying when they occur.

It's quite fine when they occur and I just ignore it. The thing is that even Jack Jack find it funny. Now that's really annoying!Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-71362260962634033552009-07-28T15:07:00.000+08:002009-07-28T15:07:00.659+08:00Jack Jack's CarDo you know why he has his feet up?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcF3nbOpylFJ8x3uY8cESEEHXEPoqdEihiDoSr9cdK9BTWWKtVezTgQ2kYYdk2qi7GJwhbvzh38gZGLuQGs0jcs6p0Fxh4KwgotDgp9JJv4nkRnwvd2gBYjH61HUxXP3Q68f9TOhxITSA9/s400/baby_car_feet_up_play.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362833728081284930" />

Because he wants you to push him.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-72998062161219826292009-07-27T15:13:00.002+08:002009-07-27T15:13:00.056+08:00Meme: 10 Things About MeBeen tagged by sweetseoul. "Later" is always a favorite word but is becoming a bad habit. Being OC and lazy (worst combination), I try my very hardest to organize my schedule, my stuff and my life in a way that everything will be easy but somehow manageable.

Before I accepted my full time job, my schedule was more flexible. I could do my groceries, go to belly dancing class, go to my parent's house, cook, surf and be with Jack Jack - anytime I want. I also happen to have a ME time.

Now, I'm trying to figure out a way to fit in everything in the hope that the ME time wouldn't be eliminated from the list. I believe this is going to drive me crazy if ever.

Last week was just crazy. My housekeeper went home because of a family emergency. She asked for only a 3-day leave last Sunday. She asked for another day come Tuesday. She asked for another day the next day because a family member passed away. I looked at our dirty laundry to see a big pile of clothes. Then I thought, "Oh my gawd! She's not coming back!" The thought of housekeeping, working and caring for Jack Jack alone is just overwhelming!

To make things worse, I developed a cold and an itchy throat midweek. This happened besides the fact that I was taking my vitamins regularly due to the pandemic flu. It must be the stress of thinking how to work things out should I lose my housekeeper.

I still couldn't think of how I would be able to do all things that needs to be done. So much for a ME time! Anyways, she informed me she's on her way back later that Friday. I was so relieved I could have kissed her if she was right in front me. I just tried my best not to when she got here - haha!

Things are a bit better now. But I still have to prepare for events as such should it occur again in the future. I hate the feeling that I became too dependent on someone because I used to be a person who can manage housework and Jack Jack alone. I thought I should change it and trained myself to designate anything that isn't Jack Jack related. Since I got a full-time job, I don't know how to fit everything without missing a sleep. I have yet to figure that out.

For anyone who has the same situation, how do you fit everything into your schedule?

Image is from craft and co.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-35601656827427962772009-07-25T15:33:00.000+08:002009-07-25T15:33:00.328+08:00Belly KissesAt the end of my day's work, I always get cranky. It makes me feel guilty because I sometimes lose my patience with just about anything. Even with Jack Jack. Especially now that he's getting more and more curious exploring his new found world. I'm no angel, you know. I am not hitting him or anything but there are times when I couldn't really open my eyes to help him to nurse. Yes! I help him nurse because he can sometimes find his way to my breast! But then, other times, he can't. I feel like a bad mother because up until now, I still can't tell exactly what he wants. Hungry? Sleepy? Cranky? It's always a guessing game. I try to make a schedule when he would bathe, sleep and eat but most of the time it doesn't go as planned. And so, the schedule goes out the window. Sometimes, he would sleep at this time. Tomorrow, he won't. Meal schedule is another problem because he won't eat if he's sleeping or awake but sleepy. Ugh!

Okay, enough on blabbing and let me just show you this video. He gives me belly kisses when he wants something. Breastfeeding or not, it is hard to leave your baby at home to work.

I pumped as much as I could during the weekend to build a milk supply for Jack Jack's night feedings. The job offer came in as a surprise especially that it was offered to me full time. I couldn't really be sure how much he's drinking since we are used to nursing directly. I'm so glad I was able to stock 15 oz. of breast milk.

Monday night. Everything has been set. Milk has been thawed for Jack Jack. We had dinner early so I can tuck him to sleep early as well. Before 10 PM, he's off to Never Never Land.

My training starts at 11 PM so I still have time to spare. Hubby got home just in time so I was able to go online before 11 PM. Everything seems to be working well.

I thought it would be easier because Jack Jack would be close to me even if I'm working. I can always see him whenever I want. Much to my dismay, I think breastfeeding and working at home was harder for me. Firstly, because it was the first time that I'd be away from him for a long time since his first and last sleepover. I also have the unfortunate event that I would hear him cry but I can't nurse him for food or comfort. Looking at him and seeing his face longing for my touch is just heartbreaking. I was so close to quitting.

Anyways, I got through the night and quickly nursed him right after working hours (8 AM).

I'm so glad I have support from my husband and my Mom on this. Otherwise, I would've quit after a day's work.

I pumped my milk every 4 hours. My legs can hold the pump in place while sitting on my chair so both of my hands are free once I'm done setting it up. After pumping, the milk is labeled and placed in the fridge along with the breastpump for the next pumping session. I wash and sterilize all breastpump parts and feeding bottles after work.

I'm at the last two days of training. Next week, I'm hoping that I'd be working on my own timezone. At least, I can work anytime I want.

Here's my favorite part everyday!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 220px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi73odi1QXK2O67N6qRWTnLEE_YaUuFRhoYkiSjWHXxz-0MvkT49ku_u0yBUb5p-4WlS5GCYtEFXnQ6pQkMeBNXc_qZI5SbRljmgZRJ05APEtug3kNkiuv8yU9nsEnqnA4cGfFYzZ8yVWss/s400/sleeping_baby_eyes_mama.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356718172402066402" />

Image is taken after nursing Jack Jack after work hours.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-22927523648151656382009-07-08T12:56:00.005+08:002009-07-09T03:51:27.039+08:00The Princess And The Chick Pea (And The Grape And The Walnut)Thanks to Melodie of the Breastfeeding Moms Unite for allowing me to repost this very cute and inspiring story. Makes me remember the time I gave birth to Jack Jack in the hospital. I hope you guys would enjoy it like I did.

(The following story is fictional. Should you see yourself in the Queen then kudos to you!)

Once upon a time (as recent as a moment ago), there was a Queen who gave birth to a Princess. What made her a Queen was that her partner called her one, and what made their daughter a Princess was because they thought her so. Aside from the nicknames, the Queen and the Princess were not unlike any other woman or baby girl.

Shortly after the Princess was born the Queen tried to breastfeed her but the Princess wouldn’t latch. The Queen was disappointed but knew she would try again later. The baby slept for a couple hours and then she tried to nurse her again. Again the Princess wouldn’t latch.

“Isn’t she nursing yet?” inquired a nurse coming into the room. “She looks hungry. I can get her a bottle of formula.”

“Oh, no!” replied the Queen. “She’s fine.”

The nurse looked at the Queen with concern. I’m going to come back in one hour and if that baby hasn’t nursed she’s getting a bottle. You don’t want her to starve do you?” And with that the nurse left.

Rattled, but not to be disuaded the Queen tried to nurse the Princess again. Still no luck. Now the Princess was screaming and all the rocking and cuddling and shushing didn’t work. The Queen asked her partner to take the baby for a short walk so she could collect her thoughts and figure out what to do. The Queen had had two other children. All of them had been breastfed. The Queen had attended numerous La Leche League meetings and was passionate about breastfeeding. She knew there must be a way to nourish her daughter without resorting to formula. Then she remembered. She decided to hand express some colostrum into a spoon. Satisfied with the teaspoon she made, she fed it to the Princess when she returned. The Princess took the spoon, swallowed the colostrum and went back to sleep.

A new mom in the bed over, who hadn’t seen what had happened but who had overheard the commotion with the nurse and crying baby, leaned over and whispered to the Queen, “My baby didn’t latch either so I let the nurses give him some formula. One bottle can’t hurt, is my opinion. Then the baby sleeps and you get some well deserved rest too.”

The woman next to her piped in “My baby latched but my milk hasn’t come in yet. I told the nurses I was concerned by how much he sleeps so they recommended I give him a bottle too. Aren’t you worried your baby might be getting hungry?” The two women looked at each other with a kind of solidarity sympathy.

Ah, the comraderie in ignorance, thought the Queen, who had been hoping to avoid this kind of confrontation. She took a deep breath and said to the first woman, “My baby is only a few hours old. Her stomach is the size of a chick pea. How did your son fare when you gave him the bottle?”

The woman looked confused by this reply. “Uh,” she stammered. “He threw most of it up, but he did get a little down. Why?”

“He threw it up because a day old baby can’t fit that amount of formula in his stomach,” said the Queen pointing to the empty bottle on the side table. “and tomorrow, she continued, his stomach will only gave grown to the size of a grape. So that’s how much milk he will need tomorrow. There’s the perfect amount of colostrum in your breasts to satisfy his hunger.” She smiled weakly at the woman. “I didn’t mean to put you off. I just hate how uninformed so many maternity nurses are. And I’m sorry to tell you this but one bottle of formula does make a difference. It introduces a strain of bacteria to his intestines that would otherwise not be there and it can affect his immune system.”

The woman looked horrified. “What should I do?” she asked.

“Tell them to help you with your latch,” offered the Queen, “or ask to speak to the hospital’s lactation consultant. Or just relax and let the baby latch when he’s ready. That’s what I’m trying to do. This one is my third. They do catch on eventually. They have to eat right? And before formula came along babies breastfed. I can’t imagine many babies died from from failure to latch correctly in the first few days.” She turned to the second woman. “How old is your son?” she inquired.

“He’s just over three days old.”

“You don’t need to be worried that your milk hasn’t come in yet. It will. It always does. Some women’s milk just takes a little longer to come in than others, but it’s still normal to wait up to five days. And he’s getting all he needs from your colostrum too. His tummy is only the size of a walnut so he still doesn’t need too much. I guarantee it! Oh look, here comes my little Princess!”

The Princess was awake and peaceful now. The Queen had disapated most of her stress from the earlier incident with the nurse by talking with her neighbours and felt quite relaxed. “Put her on my belly,” she instructed her partner.

The baby lay on her chest with her little head turned to one side. Her lips turned into a little birdie beak and she began to root. Back and forth her head turned searching for food until at last she sensed what she wanted. She moved towards it her mouth open wide, and finally, with a smack of her lips she latched and began to suck. Her partner looked down on the Queen and the Princess with amazement and joy. A nurse who had been watching quietly from behind the curtain sucked in her breath. “Well, I never!” she stated. They all watched in wonder as the Princess nursed for a few minutes on each side and then fell asleep in milked-out bliss.

“Well, I guess I can cancel the formula,” said the nurse, turning to go. “For now.”

“My Princess won’t be needing any formula,” said the Queen. “This baby was born healthy, with a healthy weight to a healthy mom. She is breastfeeding now and I will continue to do so. She doesn’t need formula to fill her up because her stomach is the size of a chick pea. Tomorrow it will be the size of a grape and the next day the size of a walnut!” She took a breath and went on.”Furthermore, although I do hope you already know this, my breasts make colostrum to provide antibodies to my baby, not to serve the nutritive equivalent of a five course meal! My baby needs to sleep and adjust to the world, she does not need to be force fed formula. By giving these babies formula you’re interfering in their breastfeeding relationships with their mothers. You’re “f-ing” with these mom’s perfectly fine milk supply levels and setting them up to fail. As well you’re taking away from these precious babies their chance to receive nature’s finest immunity building substance known to people-kind! Tell me you already know all this and you’re just being forced by your manager or formula companies to give these babies bottles and I’ll stop yelling at you and go yell at someone else instead!”

The nurse was pale. “Uh,” she stammered. “Uhhhh…” and then without another word she turned and flew out of the room.

“Okay, settle down sweetie,” whispered the partner, “You’re going to wake the baby.”

There was clapping from behind the curtain. The Queen started to cry.

“What’s wrong?” asked her partner in alarm. “Are you okay?”

“I’m just so glad she latched,” said the Queen, as her shoulders heaved and she wiped away her tears.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-78381193673778746822009-07-05T23:28:00.005+08:002009-07-06T01:33:31.049+08:00Bumps & Bruises<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidApBRNJXpvftMPLEj39TRFxVyEwk7BKqBVKWZ0XnN8RUewBmgpEeCibzsppUv4cfOlpFs-bgFEH30qEpXx52U2j22HXT24oZdo9HdaQ41bQyl46ZgEeXl23x5SmfglXRnSK-m0wAxwZBC/s400/stick_tongue_out_baby_cute.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354999540435064642" />

With how energetic Jack Jack is now, I can't help it when he injures himself. Usually, he would bump his head or get a scratch from something. I feel guilty and would always blame myself because I'm a mother. It's just terrible. I hope that I can always shield him from harms way. The idea of Bubble Boy will always come into my mind. Perhaps a baby helmet?

Anyways, the little twerp recently just had his biggest bruising ever! I hope there wouldn't be a bump bigger than this in the future. See above image.

From this, I thought about talking about first aids. I'm not an expert or a doctor but here's from my experience:

1. Ice. I use ice to apply to any bump he gets. Make sure you have a clothe or towel between the ice and the skin when applying. Otherwise, baby can get ice burn.

2. Propolis. It's what I use for skin irritations and infections. Good for relief of persistent skin rashes, skin itches, insect bites, infected wounds & burns. It can be purchased here.

3. Hirudoid Cream. For bruises that cannot be remedied by the ice.

As of now, this is my list. I always have the good old alcohol and betadine at hand wishing I would never use them besides disinfecting.

About the bruise, it didn't get this red until 2 days later. It was hard and warm if you feel it by hand. His doctor gave us antibiotics for it and required to apply hot compress. She says the bruising occurred inside the skin. After 2 days of antibiotics, the hardness is gone and the redness is clearing up but I still have 5 more days of antibiotics.

I know the the bruising hurts but I'm glad that it didn't cause him to have a fever from the pain. He just became a bit warm after his flu shot was administered last Friday.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-76775628752671432732009-07-03T03:17:00.008+08:002009-07-03T11:13:32.258+08:00While You're Breastfeeding or PumpingIf you've been breastfeeding for a while, it sometimes gets boring if you're just watching your baby nurse. This proves to be true for WAHM like me, who nurses their babies directly everyday. It's a different situation for Working Moms though. When you're nursing, it doesn't mean that you can't do anything else. Woman are known for their skill in multitasking, huh!

Here's a list of the things that I enjoy doing while nursing. Please don't get shocked if some items are a bit odd:

Sleeping. This is just about my favorite. This is one of the advantages of nursing your baby. Mommy gets to sleep! How great is that?

Watch Baby Sleep. This goes before sleeping because I get sleepy when I watch Jack Jack sleep. I know I mentioned that this sometimes bores me. I said "sometimes" so most of the time, it just amuses me that sometimes, I don't want to put him down even if he's already asleep and content.

Eat. Nursing your baby will definitely double (or sometime triple) your appetite so don't starve yourself. Eat and drink when you are hungry or thirsty.

Pump while nursing or nurse while pumping. This will help you increase your milk supply and also increase your stored milk for when times you need to leave baby or when you need to go back to work. This will start to be a challenge on the fifth month where all the curiousity starts.

Watch TV. I really enjoy doing this because there's not much moving involved except when you need to change the channel.

Read a book or listen to an audio book. For real books, this is a bit challenging when changing the page but it's possible.

Sing. No, I don't sing like how I sing in the shower (you get the picture?!). I sing baby songs or nursery songs or whatever you call those slow songs.

Surf the net/Chat. One of my favorites but it's really difficult to use only one hand for the keyboard.

Play games on my phone/Text. This has gotten me through the first weeks of Jack Jack.

Make a To Do/Grocery List. As long as I'm holding my phone, this one's a great help for me to remember things I need to do or buy.

Daydream. Don't you?

Talk on the phone. Great way to keep in touch with families and friends!

Travel/Walk Around. I can walk with baby nursing. It's also possible in a moving vehicle.

Do you think I'd get a ticket for driving while nursing? Haven't tried it though.

Perhaps:

Bowling?!

Or Yoga?!Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-4874497686636171212009-07-02T15:12:00.001+08:002009-07-02T15:39:14.546+08:00Oral Care: Brushing Kid's TeethI'm not sure if it is working or not (because I don't know where Jack Jack has kept his toothbrush after this). I just know that he's interested and happy while we were brushing his teeth.

First we watched these toothpaste commercials on YouTube:

Then I took Jack Jack to the bathroom with me. Put a bit of his toothpaste on his toothbrush. Did the same thing on mine. Showed him how to do it. Handed his toothbrush to him. Sing a bit of the ad commercial while brushing. Works like magic!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg97IGDNtMNO3lBxpnDBGwuK67ET-oWf74tBvXrIAQUzrAODaD6FSFw2rMSH6YFVavV64Jpxs4_Z3Dw62U0AP0MjO0SO1_WTAyq8CiY0xcowgHh2wbMoh9xrGB6rYbOUtTTKgwWRQuVZQPb/s400/baby_toothbrush.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353548269456910898" />

Problem occurred when he didn't want to stop brushing. He'd cry if I take the toothbrush away so I let him hold it for a while. Next thing I know, the toothbrush is nowhere in sight!

We have tried to find where the toothbrush went to no avail. Time to buy another one. I'll try remember not to leave it with him no matter what.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-27155031199173878522009-07-01T20:04:00.002+08:002009-07-02T00:49:42.414+08:00Before Formatting Your Laptop/Desktop ComputerI recently formatted my laptop and I wanted to make sure that I was ready by making a list of all the things I need to do before formatting. But still, I forgot to do something else. Now, I want to make a list of them all to make sure that next time, it won't happen again.

1. BACKUP!!! How many times do I have to reiterate this? (Sorry. I think my former job has something to do with the attitude here.) I'm not angry, I just want to make sure that this item would get into you (or me) and will never be forgotten. I didn't forget about backing up. In fact, I would usually backup files from the My Documents folder because that's where most of my files are located.

2. List applications to be installed. Go to your Add or Remove Programs window. This can be accessed through the Control Panel window. Then list all the applications that you need to install. Skip the applications you haven't used for more than 6 months. If you haven't used it that long, there's a bigger chance you will never use it again.

3. Installers and drivers. Locate where you keep all your installers and drivers. This includes installers for applications, operating system, printer, scanner, etc.

4. Links. If you frequently surf the net, chances are, you've got your favorite links bookmarked on your browser. Include this item to backup. For Internet Explorer, your Favorites folder is in the following path:

{Windows Directory}:\Documents and Settings\{User Name}\Favorites

The bookmarked pages are stored differently from browser to browser. Refer to your browser's Help file for assistance.

I forgot to backup the last item so, "Yay me!" Now, I'm missing some of my favorite sites to visit.

I think I got everything covered now. I'll just look this list up the next time I'm formatting which I hope is not anytime soon.

If I forgot to include something, please let me know. We'll update this post.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-86154922129665950962009-06-30T15:24:00.003+08:002009-07-12T02:34:29.107+08:00Review: Medela Swing
Since I have talked about how I feel about the Medela Freestyle, I think it is just about fair that I also talked about the Medela Swing. You know she might hear that I'm all for the Freestyle and suddenly decides to quit on me. And that is just going to make me so sad.

Don't get me wrong. I love my Medela Swing... She's never put me down - ever - except for days that I leave it in the fridge unwashed because I don't have the time to clean it. I know you'd say, “Eeeeewww.” But that's another story. Let's focus on my breastfeeding partner.

Anyways, I made the mistake of purchasing my Medela Swing after giving birth. I had the all time myth on my mind that I would not have milk and the breast pump would be a waste, so there.

Actually, I pre-ordered my Medela Swing from an online seller which means I will receive the breast pump in a month or so (with my fingers crossed!). I chose to pre-order than have it bought it from a local dealer because it is cheaper. Waaay cheaper. Even with the shipping cost added to it. The only difference is the input voltage wherein the local dealer would give you 220V adaptors. Since the pre-ordered breast pump would come all the way from across the globe (United State), you would receive the 110V adaptors. This is easily solved by those cute little 90 Watts transformers from your local hardware store. I got mine from True Value for a little bit less than Php500. Others say Ace Hardware has it also.

Moving on, the Swing is light in weight (2.5 lbs.) and compact in size (about 6 inches in diameter). Since it comes in its own pouch, I can fit it into any bag that I have. Well, most of my bags are a bit big in size because I pack heavy. All parts of the Swing are BPA free making it more appealing for me.

I also find it mobile. It doesn’t have the rechargeable batteries that the Freestyle has but it can be powered by 4 AA batteries. I have been able to pump milk in the comforts of a vehicle (moving or not).

For me, the sound is quiet enough that I could pump with Jack Jack sleeping beside me. I don’t know why others are saying it’s loud because it’s not.

It’s been a year since I bought it and the strength of the suction is still the same. I can completely empty my breast after pumping for 15 minutes. Although the breastshield is a bit deformed. Probably from the many times I have sterilized it.

My favorite feature of the Medela Swing is its 2-Phase Expression Technology which mimics the baby’s suckling. You can also adjust the suction strength from pushing two buttons.

UPDATE: July 12, 2009

I noticed that I didn't include the cons of using the Swing. I guess it doesn't bother me much which is why I forgot to mention them. I feel that this wouldn't be a valid review if there's none so here it is...

It is a single pump. Pumping time is longer because I would need to transfer to the other breast and another 15-3o minutes of pumping would be needed. Also, others say that let-down is stronger when suckling is done from both breasts - the reason why others nurse and pump simultaneously. I haven't tried using a double pump though.

The tubing also accumulates condensation while you are pumping. Sometimes the moisture is too much that it can be sucked into the pump motor. This is, however, mentioned in the breastpump's user manual but it might damage the pump motor if the moisture reaches it. Simply allow the motor running with only the tubing attached to the motor and the moisture will dry.

Since I spend most of my time at home with the baby, this is just about the perfect breast pump for me. Well, at least that's what I thought last year.

Specifications and other features of the Medela Swing can be found here.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-64597987427431786302009-06-29T15:06:00.001+08:002009-06-30T20:07:54.947+08:00Jack Jack's FerrariI know you want another video of Jack Jack in action. Sure, you can hire a lactation counselor in your area and you better make sure she's available 24/7. Otherwise, you will need to rely on yourself. Thus, the importance of learning the basics.

There are usually available resources in your local bookstore. I was lucky enough to get a copy of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding: Seventh Revised Edition (La Leche League International Book).

If you are internet savvy, then you've got a handful of information available to you. You can join an online support group for breastfeeding to meet with other nursing mothers. You might also be able to find a group near your area from searching online. My favorite breastfeeding sites are as follows:

Kellymom: Breastfeeding and Parenting
Breastfeeding Moms Unite!
Breastfeeding.com - Everything for the New Mom
Mother-2-Mother

I know that's a lot of stuff to go through so if you have any questions and you can't find the answer anywhere, just let me know. Maybe I can tell you the answer or maybe we'll both look for it. (wink! wink!)

I do not know what I would do without these resources. I'm thinking I could've mot been able to fulfill my breastfeeding dream.

Please do not forget to vote on the poll: "How long are you planning on breastfeeding your baby?". It's located in the sidebar.Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4141838607934653182.post-62558271560785768962009-06-26T15:01:00.002+08:002009-06-27T01:19:58.269+08:00How Long Are You Planning On Breastfeeding?I was always asked this question whenever they hear that I am nursing. Jack Jack is now 13 months old and I'm still nursing him on demand. Ofcourse, I supplement it with other food already.

Basically, I am planning on breastfeeding Jack Jack for as long as he wants. I am also hoping that I get to tandem nurse should we have another child soon.

Now, I'm turning the tables.

How long are you planning on breastfeeding your baby?(online surveys)

Tiggerlilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12656838140345981914noreply@blogger.com0
